Material For a Loss to Venality 2017 Printed Book

Quickly following the inauguration in 2017 crucial information about climate change became unavailable through government agencies. I printed out a pamphlet of the 2016 Climate Indicators pamphlet in inkjet. In attempt to freeze a chunk of ice in an Ohio January winter I kept an iceberg shaped mold full of water and waited weeks for the temperatures to drop low enough to freeze the mold. (Which should have happened the first day.) Each day I journaled about new developments in the country such as the Muslim Ban and logged the temperature along with the historical average temperature. Once the mold did freeze I let the ice melt over the pages and wash their color. It was a marking of loss to sensibility in this country’s leadership. The book can be previewed below.

Reforestation    2017      10 trees, 10 concrete plaques, tape, wood, soil

Reforestation is an ongoing project where I planted (sans permission) 10 trees at a site on the campus of Ohio State. The location was previously a forest and has been converted to a power substation. The project began as an experiment to see if the trees would be taken down by landscaping, but as they continue to stand, I have also been caring for them.
